Vapour Alarm System & Combustible Gas Alarm Calibration |
Vapour Alarm System (VAS) and Combustible Gas Alarm are critical safety components on ship, designed to detect and alert the crew about the presence of hazardous vapors and gases in various areas of the vessel. Regular calibration and certification of these systems are vital to ensure their accuracy and reliability in protecting the ship and its crew from potential gas-related hazard.
Vapour Alarm System Calibration
Vapour Alarm System (VAS) or Vapour Emission Control System (VECS) on ships is used to monitor the concentration of harmful vapors in cargo areas, pump room, and other enclosed spaces. Calibration of the vapor alarm system involves checking the accuracy of the sensor that detect the targeted vapors, such as hydrocarbons or noxious fumes.
During calibration, the sensor are exposed to calibration gases with known concentration of the target vapors. The reading from the sensor are then compared to the known gas concentration, and any discrepancies are corrected through adjustment or repair to ensure the system's accuracy and proper functionality.

Combustible Gas Alarm Calibration
Combustible Gas Alarm / Combustible Gas Monitor / Combustible Gas Detection is installed in specific area of the ship to continuously monitor the presence of flammable gases, such as methane or hydrogen. Calibration of the combustible gas alarm involves checking the accuracy of the sensor that detect these gases.
Similar to the vapor alarm system calibration, the sensor of the combustible gas alarm are exposed to calibration gases with known concentration of the target gases. The readings from the sensor are then compared to the known gas concentration, and any deviation are corrected through adjustment or replacement to ensure accurate gas detection.

Certification of Vapour Alarm System and Combustible Gas Alarm
Once the calibration process is successfully completed, both the vapor alarm system and the combustible gas alarm are certified. The certification is typically conducted by a qualified marine surveyor or inspector. The certification includes providing documentation that verifies the accuracy and reliability of the system.
On ship, vapor alarm system and combustible gas alarm must comply with international maritime regulation, ensuring their accuracy and reliability for critical safety task on board. The certification includes information about the calibration date, next due date for recalibration, and any limitation or restriction on the use of the system.
